Ludicra

Location: 924 Gilman Street, Berkeley, California
Other Bands:

Asunderand Stormcrow

This was my first time at 924 Gilman Street since it usually has punk bands playing there.  A small place but very interesting with graffiti all over the place and a few couches to sit in if you get tired of standing.  But I heard about the band Ludicra via the internet and was interested and this was their record release party as well: Another Great Love Song.  Asunder I saw last month at the 3 Days of Darkness in San Francisco and they are a good Doom metal band.  Yeti from Florida was to suppose to be playing as well but cancelled.  Stormcrow was the opening act.  So we had 3 local bay area bands playing.

Stormcrow first on stage.  Pretty good band.  Death metal sounding.  I do not know much about the band other than what I saw and heard.  I will have to keep an eye out for them in the future.

Asunder came on next and they played 3 songs that lasted @40 minutes.  Yes very long doom metal songs but enjoyable.  Although I did take advantage of one of the couches during this performance.  They enjoyed this venue over the last one that I saw them at as this place had cooling and ventilation.  This is another band to keep an eye on and is actually on my list.  The only problem I have with this band is the drummer.  He can be very obnoxious during and sometimes before and after the set.  But he is a good drummer and vocalist as well, so this can be overlooked but he does make sure you know he is around unlike the other members of the band.

Ludicra.  A female main vocalist with a female backup vocalist that is also a lead guitarist, wow amazing!  They did not disappoint anyone.  They played most if not all of their songs of their new record.  Although I was a bit tired from a show the previous night I made sure I got into this part of the show as they kicked ass.  The crowd was large and filled the floor.  A small pit was created and that made the show even more enjoyable.  Although on the stage for only about 45 minutes, Ludicra did a great job and delivered the goods.

In closing this review; Ludicra did such a good job that I picked-up a shirt and a copy of the new album.  Like I said earlier, all of the bands are from the bay area and it is up to us the metal fans in the bay area to see these bands play so that they can go further.  Another great night and very cheap ($5).
