Death Angel

Date: Thursday, May 6th, 2004
Location: DNA Lounge in San Francisco, California
Opening Bands:

Primate and Time In Malta

This is the second show in a row where we really went to see the headliner and thought that the opening bands would be good so we got there early enough to see them.  But for the second time we were disappointed with the opening bands.  So we will talk about Death Angel first then give you some feedback on the other bands.

Death Angel:  This was a record release party for Death Angel's new album "The Art Of Dying".  They came onto the stage at 11:00 pm.  There was a full house and they did not disappoint anyone.  They played probably every song from their new album plus songs from previous releases.  Although it had been 14 years since their last album, but only a few years since they performed, they still put on a good show with their usual antics on stage that they have done over the years.  Mark Osegueda was as usual his crazy wild self on stage telling jokes to the audience and having fun with everyone.  He was also found in the crowd prior to his gig listening to the opening acts and talking to friends and fans.  Some of the songs were done without Mark on the stage, just leaving the musician's to do their stuff.  One of the highlights of the show was the playing of the "The Ultra-Violence" in it's entirety (10+ minutes).  Death Angel left the stage at 1:00 am.  The only thing that bugged us was the sound system (or sound system controller) at the DNA Lounge.  For example; during one of many Rob Cavestany solo's their was suppose to be a rhythm guitar to accompany the solo but you could not hear the rhythm guitar at all.  Not a big deal to now want to go back to the DNA Lounge, but something I hope will not be duplicated the next time.

OK now for the opening bands and again they were bad.  They did not fit in with Death Angel's style of music (Thrash Metal).

Time In Malta:  OK the name should give it away that they do not play Thrash, Death etc. metal.  I guess you could say they play "Nu"-Metal but we do not listen to that shit!  The singer could not sing.  It was terrible and hurt the ears.  I can't believe that the other band members cannot tell the singer sucks and so the entire band sucked!

Primate = sucked!!!  What the fuck was this band trying to do?  With the lead singer using an acoustic guitar and a singing style similar to Bono, you can get the picture that this is not a "metal" band at all.  They were so loud that fortunately another "un-impressed" patron supplied us with ear-plugs, and that was the first time I have used them at a show.

So we finish to let you know that Death Angel is still doing what they do best, and to warn  you about the other bands.

Remember we are "true" metal fans and we speak our minds and will not be merciful to bands that do not meet our requirements of being "metal" bands!
